Acorn TV from RBdigital Streaming Video Library Card Required.

Access to Acorn TV is only working intermittently. Two issues we've come across include: a) Users being asked to sign in again when re-directed from RBdigital to Acorn TV's website; b) A user arriving at the “Welcome Back to Acorn TV” screen and not being able to access the rest of the site.
We have contacted the vendor for support. We will update the website when more information becomes available. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Instructions: Acorn TV has partnered with RBdigital to offer TV shows through the RBdigital multimedia platform.  If you do not have an RBdigital username, first obtain the username by clicking "Register" atop the RBdigital homepage.  You will also be prompted to create an Acorn TV password.  You can then begin watching Acorn TV shows in a web browser.  If you wish to use a mobile app to view the TV shows, please download the latest version of the RBdigital mobile app by searching for "RBdigital" in your mobile device's app store (such as Apple's App Store or Google Play store). Great Courses, The Library Card Required.

With hundreds of academic videos on various subjects like history, science, philosophy, mathematics, literature, economics, and the arts, all taught by university professors and subject-area experts, The Great Courses Library Collection from RBdigital has courses on how to do it, how to learn it, or how it happened.  

First time users will need to register for an RBdigital user name. Begin by clicking "Register" atop the RBdigital homepage.  You can then begin watching lectures in a web browser.  If you wish to use a mobile app to listen or watch, please download the latest version of the RBdigital mobile app.  Look for The Great Courses audio files in the Audiobooks section, and for video files in the Education section. Little Pim introduces young children (ages 6 months to 6 years) to learning a foreign language. Using short videos and flash cards, the award-winning program immerses children into a new language. 

Muzzy is a language learning program created by the BBC. Available in 7 languages the Muzzy story is a captivating and entertaining way for kids to learn another language.

New York Times, The (Current Issues) Library Card Required.

The New York Times Online is available in three editions: English, Spanish and Chinese. Click on ESPAÑOL or 中文 on top of the webpage to access the Spanish or Chinese edition.

Headlines are updated throughout the day and readers have access to Times Video, which provides short videos on culture, entertainment, world news, science, and much more. Lending Information. FAQ.

A few limitations to be aware of:

  • Mobile apps are available only for remote access. If you're connected to the Library's WiFi inside the library you will not be able to use the mobile app version.
  • Articles from 1923-1980 are not available for in-library access. However, patrons can access 5 articles per day from this date range via off-site access.
  • The archives for 1851-1922 and 1981 - present are unlimited.
  • The Crosswords app is not included. However, crosswords from the past week, as well as a handful from the archive, are available in the Crosswords section.
  • The Cooking app is not included, but patrons can access recipes via the Food section on nytimes.com.

Rosetta Stone Library Edition: Language Learning Including ESL Library Card Required.

Immersion language learning for 30 languages including English (ESL)! Online courses are available in different proficiency levels and structured around core lessons that help build reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills using interactive voice comparison, illustrative images, quizzes, and challenges. 

General instructions:

  • Headphones or speakers should be connected to your computer before you open your browser; Rosetta Stone may not work if you don't.
  • When prompted for your "Patron ID" to log in to Rosetta Stone, enter your SCCLD library card number.
  • To change languages, or to study more than one language, log out of Rosetta Stone completely and re-enter the site through this page. 
  • Recommended browsers are Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox (current and previous three versions), Safari 12, and Edge Chromium (current version).  System requirements. Flash is no longer required except for these languages (Indonesian, Swahili, Pashto, Urdu, and Dari), or if you use Internet Explorer. To enable flash in your browser, please view these instructions

From a desktop or laptop:

  1. Go to Rosetta Stone from our website to sign in with your email address and password.
  2. Select Rosetta Stone, then login and choose a language. 
  3. Follow the prompts to customize your experience and begin learning at your own pace.
    • Under "My Lessons" --> "Show Menu" you can view all the units available. 
    • Under "Extended Learning" --> "Phrasebook" you can access and learn more about the most commonly used phrases. 
    • Under "Extended Learning" --> "Audio Companion" you can download MP3 files to listen to complimentary audio files on the go.
    • To adjust your settings, click the "Wheel" icon on the top right-hand corner for more options.

Going mobile?

Rosetta Stone also provides a mobile app for iPhone, iPad, Android, and Kindle Fire. First-time users: Download and install the Rosetta Stone mobile app, but do not open it.

  1. On your mobile device, always login to Rosetta Stone via our website first.
  2. Select Rosetta Stone, then login and choose a language.
  3. Launch Rosetta Stone Language Foundation.
  4. The app will automatically open.
  5. Click on Sign In. Select the Work & School option and login with your Rosetta Stone credentials. The "Namespace" should display the word "scc".
  6. To adjust your settings click the "Wheel" icon on the upper right-hand corner for more options.

The Audio Companion provides audio-only files that go along with each lesson.

  1. Under "Extended Learning" select Audio Companion or download the MP3 files for your language and begin listening.
