The Santa Clara County Library District aspires to be an inclusive space where everyone feels welcomed, supported in their lifelong learning, and energized to help us evolve as a community. We will work to create a world in which access to knowledge, resources, and opportunities is guaranteed to all.

What is the Purpose of Our Strategic Plan?

The positive impact of this plan is its utility as a guide and navigational tool for intentional and purposeful action, prioritizing initiatives and services provided by the Library District as a high performing library.

The strategic plan is as much about reflectively sustaining what the library already does well for its community as it is about thoughtful innovation.

Priorities and Goals

WELCOME

Goals:

  1. Advance equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts to strengthen a sense of belonging at SCCLD.
  2. Use innovative service models to connect community members with the library.
  3. Build on the service-oriented districtwide philosophy to provide a welcoming and positive library experience.
  4. Support local community needs with reflective services throughout the Library District.

Goals:

  1. Expand understanding of and support for partnerships across the Library District, with focus on building relationships to increase community connections.
  2. Recruit and retain staff and volunteers that reflect our communities.
  3. Develop a patron-centered intentional programming model.
  4. Measure and actively promote the community impact of library programs and services.

INSPIRE

We inspire, building the foundations of literacy with our community.

Goals:

  1. Create a comprehensive Districtwide literacy program plan.
  2. Work with educators to increase use of library services and materials.
  3. Create enchanting and interactive children's spaces to instill a joy of learning.

INNOVATE

We innovate, fostering a culture of curiosity and opportunity.

Goals:

  1. Actively innovate without fear of failure.
  2. Design and implement flexible public spaces that encourage library visits and elevate patron experiences.
  3. Spark discovery with new technology.

Overview of the Planning Process

The strategic planning process was designed to gather input throughout the Library District. Different methods were used to collect ideas and perspectives. This included background research, a community survey in 5 languages, feedback boards at every Library location, in-person and virtual town hall meetings with the community and with Library staff, external and internal focus groups, and 1:1 interviews.
