General Questions
- If you already have a full-access library card, you do not need a Library eCard.
- A full-access library card can be used to access both our digital and physical collections. It allows you to check out printed books, magazines, console games, CDs, DVDs, and more.
- A full-access library card also allows you to reserve and use public computers at library locations.
- If you have a Library eCard, you have the option to convert it to a Full-Membership Library Card at the Accounts Desk, during a visit to the library.

To recommend items for the Libby App or the OverDrive website, please see our Suggestion for Purchase guide.
The Library offers a small collection of Always Available Classics. Each title is available for perpetual access (no holds) in the following formats:
- EPub (you will need to have Adobe Digital Editions installed and authorize the software with an Adobe ID)
- Kindle (if you select this option, you will be taken to your account on Amazon.com and you can sync the title to your Kindle Reader)
- Multiple Formats via Internet Archive Open Library (you will be taken to the Internet Archives page featuring several different formats for you to view and download).
Other sources to locate Always Available Classics include the Literary Reference Center Plus.
The Literary Reference Center Plus provides full-text classics in PDF format which can be read directly in the browser. The link to the full-text classics is found in the left-hand Browse menu, where books can be searched or browsed by title, genre, or locale (of the story).
Sometimes a "file association" error occurs on your computer, which prevents Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) from opening downloaded eBooks. If you're having trouble opening eBooks in Adobe Digital Editions on your Windows or Mac computer, try these steps to make sure that your computer opens ACSM files (which are used to download eBooks) in Adobe Digital Editions.
Note: If you're using the Firefox browser, you'll also need to change the ACSM file association there (to make sure Firefox opens ACSM files with the correct program).

OverDrive / Libby
In OverDrive / Libby, you'll have access to over 3,000 digital magazines with a rolling 3 years of back issues (where available). There are no magazine checkout limits, so you'll be able to borrow as many as you like.
To recommend items for the Libby App or the OverDrive website, please see our Suggestion for Purchase guide.
Borrowed magazines will expire at the end of their lending periods, but you'll be able to renew them if you need more time to read.
The RBdigital magazine collection was migrated in January 2021 to OverDrive / Libby.
Users who previously borrowed magazines from RBdigital will be able to access their historical magazine loans by either downloading the optional free ZINIO app or going to zinio.com. From the ZINIO app or website, users can register for a new ZINIO account using the same email address they used to access RBdigital. Once registered, their previously borrowed ZINIO magazine loans will be available in their account.
- Log into your Account on the OverDrive website.
- Select your Settings page.
- Pick the desired lending period option for each format. Your settings are saved automatically.

- Sign in to your Libby/OverDrive account on https://santaclara.overdrive.com/ in a browser.
- Go to Loans and find the ebook or audiobook.

- Go to "Read books with..."
- Choose "I have no preferences" to ensure you aren't locked out of options.
Next, go to https://libbyapp.com, opens a new window in a browser. Please note, the additional options do not display in the mobile app.
- Sign into your Libby account.
- Go to your Loans shelf and tap "Read With" next to the ebook.
- You will see the Kindle and Libby reading options, then "Other Options" below them.
