New "Potter the Otter" book release focused on helping families prepare for kindergarten

WHAT:    ”Potter the Otter Gets Ready for Kindergarten” book release and appearance by FIRST 5 Santa Clara County’s mascot.  Discussion of Countywide efforts to expand early learning opportunities for children 0 to 8.

WHY:
  Beloved children’s book character Potter the Otter promotes healthy living to young children, and is the creation of FIRST 5 Santa Clara County.  In this latest release, Potter, with the help of his family and friends, prepares for the first day of school.

This release event will feature guest speakers including Nancy Howe, Santa Clara County Library District County Librarian; Ken Yeager, Santa Clara County Supervisor and FIRST 5 Santa Clara County Commission Chair; Dr. Mary Ann Dewan, Santa Clara County Office of Education Superintendent; Jolene Smith, FIRST 5 Santa Clara County Chief Executive Officer; and Sue Kehl, Director of Nursing at Santa Clara County Valley Medical Center.  Potter the Otter will be on-hand to greet participating children and provide them with giveaways and snacks.
