Jim Gill to Give Free Children’s Concerts
at Three SCCLD Libraries

WHAT: SCCLD’s kicks off its “Ready to Read” program with concerts performed by celebrated author and musician, Jim Gill.  Based on the American Library Association’s Every Child Ready to Read (ECRR) initiative encouraging early literacy through the building of five skill areas:  Talking Reading, Singing, Playing and Writing, Gill’s 2015 Family Room Tour embraces these skills through fun and interactive play for both parents and children.  The event is just one of many early childhood events sponsored by SCCLD as part of this month’s celebration:  “Month of the Young Child”.    Gill’s distinctive approach to teaching early literacy skills brings together children and adults, encouraging them to experience the joy of reading together in a playful manner, both at the concert as well as when they return home.

WHO   Jim Gill, musician and author, is unique among children’s artists.  A child development specialist, Gill completed his graduate studies in child development at the Erikson Institute of Chicago with a special emphasis on the study of play.  His family concerts are more than performances; they provide a creative environment that is conducive to playful interactions between a child and caring adult.
