The Best Books for Adults 2019

With so many media outlets putting out their best books of the year lists, it can get overwhelming. With so many opinions, how can we really know which were the best? Well, we've done the work for you! Looking at 22 lists from the likes of The New York Times, Publisher's Weekly, GoodReads, Entertainment Weekly, and more, we've figured out which books were the best by finding out which books made the most lists. 

Top honors in fiction goes to Ocean Vuong, for his debut novel On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous, which made it onto a whopping 13 lists! Close behind with 12 mentions is The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead. In nonfiction, the book on the most lists was Say Nothing by Patrick Keefe. If you're a fan of Derry Girls and want to know more about The Troubles in Northern Ireland, it's a must-read. Taking second place in nonfiction is Carmen Maria Machado's memoir In the Dream House, which recounts her experiences with an abusive female partner.
