The annual Be-You-tiful Be Free writing contest, presented by the Eating Disorders Resource Center (EDRC), is now accepting submissions from students in 6-12th grade and living in the Bay Area.
Must be a student in the Santa Clara County area between the grades of 6 and 12 to submit. Through a poem, essay, or visual art, teens and pre-teens can share their views on mental illnesses, such as depression and anxiety, as well as eating disorders and body image.
The winning entries will receive a cash award.
1st Place - $300
2nd Place - $200
3rd Place - $100
Theme: Mental Health, Self-Acceptance, and Social Media: How has the world around you helped/influenced how you see yourself or others?
Here are ideas you can consider when creating your piece (feel free to share a story or situation):
- What impact does social media have on self-acceptance, body image, and mental health? What are the goods and bads of social media?
- How have stereotypes, cultural background, gender, or race played a role in your mental health & self-acceptance?
