January 11, 2017

Mike Wasserman, JPA Chair

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. – January 11, 2017, Mike Wasserman, Santa Clara County Board of Supervisor for District 1, has been elected Chair of the Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) Joint Powers Authority (JPA) Governing Board. Wasserman succeeds Burton Craig, 2015 JPA Chair and current council member for the City of Monte Sereno.  Los Altos Hills Council Member and former mayor, Courtenay Corrigan, has been elected JPA Vice-Chair. The SCCLD Joint Powers Authority Board provides policy direction and governance, as well as oversight for the budget for the Library District.

“Libraries are community cornerstones where anyone can come learn,” stated newly elected JPA Chair, County Supervisor Mike Wasserman. “I am honored to serve as Chair of the District’s Governing Board and look forward to working with my fellow board members and library staff to deliver the best resources possible for our 420,000 residents living within SCCLD’s borders. My focus continues to be on providing free computer coding and tech classes for kids in a safe learning environment. It is exciting to think that our new coding programs may one day help meet Silicon Valley’s growing need for skilled tech workers.” Wasserman continued.

Elected to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors in November 2010, and re-elected in 2014, Wasserman currently serves on 28 committees throughout the County.  In addition to representing the County’s nearly 2 million residents as a County Supervisor, Wasserman previously served eight years on the Los Gatos Town Council as mayor and councilmember. His commitment to helping Santa Clara County residents is evident in his continuing support of numerous local initiatives and projects throughout his 15 years of public service.

The SCCLD Joint Powers Authority Board is composed of eleven members, with one member from each of the nine member city councils (Campbell, Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Milpitas, Monte Sereno, Morgan Hill, Saratoga), and two members from the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. Held annually, JPA elections take place on the last meeting of the calendar year with new officers beginning their one year term in January of the following year. The first JPA meeting of 2017 is scheduled for January 26, 2017, 1:30 p.m. at the Library District’s Services and Support Center, located at 1370 Dell Avenue in Campbell, CA.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting.
