Idea originated from community feedback by local stakeholders

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. – Patrons to the Cupertino Library have a new space in which to collaborate and meet with the opening of their new ThinkTank, available for groups of between 4 and 15 people. Patrons will be able to reserve the ThinkTank, a workspace with mobile tables that can be set up for meetings or folded away for a small class, for up to 2 hours a week using their Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) library card, up to 30 days in advance.

“The ThinkTank is a modern meeting room, with interactive media equipment to project documents on the large monitor and walls painted with whiteboard paint for inspiration,” said County Librarian Nancy Howe. “This new space is another example of how the Library values creativity, inspiration, and collaboration in our communities

Whether it be a teen club, a book group for adults, or a nonprofit board meeting, the ThinkTank can be reserved by to groups that need a private space to meet. The room has a wall-mounted touchscreen monitor, called the Mondopad, which serves as a projector and large tablet for users, as well as a videoconference screen for online virtual meetings. Room users should bring their own laptops, tablets or smartphones to cast their screens on the Mondopad so the whole group can better work together.

The ThinkTank is on the library’s second floor (see accompanying photos). The idea for the space came out of a summer 2018 survey of patrons, which showed that civic, nonprofit and community groups have a need for meeting space that is open outside of regular business hours. Student study groups are another expected frequent user of the space. The ThinkTank will be available for use Monday through Friday from 10:30 am – 8:30 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 am – 6:00 pm.
