Diwali, opens a new window, also spelled Divali, is one of the major religious/cultural festivals that is celebrated across the world, particularly in India. As per the Hindu lunar calendar, Diwali is typically observed sometime between October and November. This year Diwali falls on Sunday November 12th. The holiday's name is derived from the Sanskrit term dipavali, meaning “row of lights.” In general, the festival symbolizes the victory of light over darkness.
