The Art of Protest at the Milpitas Library

Local artist Sharat Lin began collecting social protest posters during his time at U.C. Santa Cruz and U.C. Berkeley. His original collection of 26 framed, original silk screen posters dates back to 1969 and has grown to more than 70, with recent acquisitions such as Black Lives Matter and women's rights in Iran. The early works were ephemera, posted on walls and used as protest signs and never intended to last more than a few weeks.  They are the creations of many different artists, often anonymous.

This partial display of Lin's collection, which is in the north and south wing galleries as well as the library courtyard, is being held in connection with the Milpitas Phantom Art Gallery and will be featured in the Milpitas Library from August 15 - October 19, 2023.

Join us for an Artists' reception in the beautiful Milpitas Library auditorium on Thursday August 24th from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. At the reception, you can make and take a screen printed poster with the San Francisco Poster Syndicate, compliments of the Friends of the Milpitas Library.
