Create, Dream, Discover: Personalize Your SCCLD Library Card!

Three New Library Card Designs Available in January

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. – The Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) is excited to announce the release of new library card designs with a unique feature. The three fun designs aim to inspire patrons to Create, Dream, and Discover unlimited possibilities, all of which can happen with a free SCCLD library card. These one-of-a-kind library card designs include a lightbulb, cloud and magnifying glass on the front where patrons can draw or write to personalize their card. SCCLD library cards are valid at all of the SCCLD library locations, Bookmobile, as well as the Online Library 24/7.

“Public Libraries are one of society’s most important resources, and a free library card unlocks those materials and services,” said Mike Wasserman, President of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and Chair of the Library Joint Powers Authority Board. “SCCLD is made up of eight convenient locations and two bookmobiles that cover over 1,000 square miles. Stop by, pick up a free library card and explore the full collection. If you prefer eBooks, audiobooks, and everything digital, or cannot get to a library, sign up online for an eCard to explore the expansive Online Library. ”

SCCLD libraries offer different ways for patrons to express themselves and Create something amazing. From craft events, 1,000+ online classes through Creativebug, creating mindfulness and a sense of well-being using the Headspace app, to creating memories by sharing favorite books with the special people in their lives, there is something for all interests.

A SCCLD library card can help make a person’s Dreams come true. For people job searching or wanting to switch careers, JobNow has free online tutoring and career assistance in writing resumes and interview coaching. LinkedIn Learning offers online self-paced learning courses for continuing education. For those who dream to learn a new language or improve their English skills, the library offers Rosetta Stone, ESL classes, and the Reading Program for adult learners. Students can also receive free online tutoring to tackle tough homework assignments.

For all patrons, whether new to the library or not, there are always many things to Discover. Research your family history with Ancestry, the popular resource that provides access to millions of records. Discover the news of the day with free access to newspapers such as The Mercury News, The New York Times and Wall Street Journal. Enjoy thousands of movies, documentaries, The Great Courses, and free streaming music with services such as Kanopy and Freegal. And kids of all ages will happily discover that the library has a collection of comic books, manga, anime and even Nintendo, Xbox and PS4 games!

“Libraries are about so much more than books,” County Librarian Jennifer Weeks said. “It’s absolutely amazing when you consider the over 2 million items in our collection, plus the programs, events, and valuable services that are available free to our patrons. Our libraries are spaces to help everyone achieve personal success and fulfillment, which build thriving communities.”

Everyone is invited to get a free library card. Current patrons are also welcome to replace their card with one of the new designs. As an added bonus, people who come into the library and get a new card will receive a special gift, while supplies last.

Santa Clara County Library District is one of the few library systems in the nation that offers its patrons a quick and easy way to keep their library account current. Patrons with full use library cards in good standing can use the new online library card renewal system to keep their account current for up to three years. There is also an online eCard registration system for patrons who just want to access the online materials and resources.
