Lunar New Year Celebration

Celebrate Lunar New Year at the library!

Lunar New Year is a festival typically celebrated in China and other Asian countries that begins with the first new moon of the lunar calendar. In China, festivities end on the first full moon, 15 days later. It's a time for families to get together, don new clothes, eat good food, and celebrate new beginnings. This year, Lunar New Year falls on Saturday, February 10, 2024. In the Chinese zodiac, 2024 is the Year of the Dragon — a mighty symbol of power, nobility, and success that also represents honor, courage, and tenacity. Join SCCLD in welcoming the Year of the Dragon with performances, lion dances, Kung fu, and arts/crafts activities inspired by Lunar New Year traditions across Asia!

At the library we have great stories to read as well as resources to learn more about Lunar New Year.  Explore CultureGrams online and check out these great books to learn more.
