Los Altos and Woodland Library Construction Updates

New Outdoor Features Coming To Los Altos and Woodland Libraries

There’s a lot of buzz in Los Altos these days, and it’s not from the bees visiting our heritage orchards. New outdoor spaces are being added to the Los Altos and Woodland Libraries.

Courtyard at Los Altos Library

The new Courtyard at Los Altos Library will offer a welcoming outdoor destination where the community can gather, learn, and connect year-round.

Designed with flexibility in mind, the space will accommodate everything from library programs and small events to quiet reading and casual conversation, with seating up for to 125 people.

Thoughtful design elements include outdoor Wi-Fi, built-in power for devices, state of the art audiovisual capabilities, and adjustable shading that allows the space to adapt to changing light and weather.

Glass fencing provides unobstructed views of the Los Altos Heritage Orchard, honoring Los Altos’ history while creating a modern, inviting space for shared community experiences.

Construction Information

Construction on the Courtyard at Los Altos Library is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 7 with an estimated completion in October. There is no anticipated impact on the operating hours at Los Altos Library. The front entrances will remain available during the work, however the back entrance will be closed to the public.

This page will be updated as new information becomes available.

Woodland Library Terrace and Native Habitat

The area adjacent to Woodland Library is being transformed into a vibrant outdoor space.

Keeping the community in mind, the Woodland Library Terrace and Native Habitat was designed for families, students and neighbors of all ages. It offers a welcoming space to read, study and gather. The project includes shaded eating areas with tables and umbrellas, surfaces for games and chalk activities, and a beautiful native garden designed and created by GreenTown Los Altos.

Construction Information

Work on the Woodland Library Terrace is underway and is expected to be completed this summer. Woodland Library will remain open during regular service hours.
