Semiquincentennial. Try saying that three times fast! The United States celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4. This marks the brave action of many of the Founding Fathers of the nation to tell the British monarchy that Americans were subjects of the crown no longer. A war of liberation ensued. Read all about the Revolutionary War in the History resources of our online library.
Events will take place across the country to celebrate Independence Day. Our libraries are joining in the fun with many events that honor our nation's founding. Things kick off on Thursday, July 2 at the Los Altos Library with a photo presentation titled Wings of Freedom: Soaring Bald Eagles. This program will be repeated twice more at the Saratoga and Gilroy libraries on Saturday and Sunday, July 11 and 12.
