Is one of your goals for 2024 to do more reading for pleasure? The Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) has many resources to help you get organized to do just that.
If you are having difficulty finding books that interest you, SCCLD can help. On our website under the tab Feature Titles you'll find many helpful resources including Find a Good Book. This page highlights online resources including NoveList Book Recommendations where you can search for read-a-likes for your favorite authors or look for recommendations based on factors that appeal to you. You can subscribe to NextReads to receive a monthly email with book recommendations. This page also lists resources for kids like NoveList K-8.
Under the Feature Titles tab you can also find Award Winners and discover newly ordered movies, music, and books for adults, kids, and teens. Plus every month our librarians create lists of selected titles for Fiction Genres and Nonfiction. Bookmark your favorites!
When you search the Library's online catalog and find a title you love, scroll down the page to see You May Also Like with similar books that you might enjoy. Under that you might find Staff Lists Featuring this Title or Community Lists Featuring this Title which might contain other titles you may like.
Now that you have found books that you are interested in reading, you can keep track of them in your online account. Click Log In / My SCCLD and sign in or register with your library card # and PIN. Once logged in, you can create lists of titles or add titles to your For Later Shelf.
Is a challenge what you need to stay organized and reach your goal of reading more? In that case, participate in Silicon Valley Reads by reading this year’s selected titles which you can find on display at the library. Silicon Valley Reads is a community engagement program that celebrates the power of books to bring people together by providing over 200 free events each year in February and March. The theme for 2024 is A Greener Tomorrow Starts Today. Start reading now and attend the kick-off event on January 31!
Sharing the reading experience is also a great way to motivate yourself. Attend a Book Club or an Author Visit for an assigned read and a discussion to inspire you to finish the book. SCCLD has many Book Clubs and Author Visits scheduled, both in-person and online.
If time is the biggest obstacle holding you back, then maybe audiobooks are for you! Explore our collection of eBooks and downloadable audiobooks. An easy way to start is to download the free Libby by Overdrive app, register with your library card # and PIN, and download titles to your device. Once downloaded, you do not need an internet connection to read it. Having trouble? Bring your device to the library and we can help!
SCCLD has you covered in organizing yourself to read more for pleasure, now you just have to find a cozy spot to get started reading!
