What brings you joy? Whether it’s cozying up with a new story, learning a new skill, gathering with community or something else, you can find your joy at SCCLD Libraries!
National Library Week, April 19–25, 2026, was first celebrated in 1958, and is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the many ways libraries bring people together, spark imagination, and support lifelong learning. From books and digital resources to job assistance and creative programming, libraries are essential to thriving communities.
The honorary chair of National Library Week this year is Mychal Threets, a librarian recently named as the host of Reading Rainbow! He recently wrote a children’s book that celebrates libraries and the joy they bring to the communities they serve. Check out the book or place it on hold!
At SCCLD, we invite everyone to join this annual celebration! Whether you're a long-time patron, a new neighbor, or haven’t visited in a while, now is the perfect time to explore all the library has to offer. Whatever brings you joy, the library has something for everyone. Whether you’re preparing for a career change, launching a business, raising a family, or embracing retirement, the Santa Clara County Library District is here to support your journey. Libraries serve as hubs for learning, creativity, and connection, helping people of all ages explore new ideas and opportunities.
If reading brings you joy, check out one of our many book discussions! Trying to foster a love of reading in your child? You can bring them to one of our many Storytimes happening each week. If fitness brings you joy, check out the free Zumba classes offered at some of our libraries. Are you a craft lover? We offer all kinds of craft programs for all ages! If you love gardening, the libraries have various programs to help you learn more about how to make your garden thrive. If you’re a fan of gaming, whether it be board games, video games, or even Dungeons and Dragons, the library has something for you!

Earlier this year, we asked library patrons to share their thoughts about how and why they use SCCLD libraries as part of the “Every Story Counts” initiative. This is what they had to say:
