Eighteen-year-old Mae Mansour refuses to believe what everyone else does—that her missing sister, Inez, is gone for good. Desperate for answers and a way out from under her parents' oppressive grip, Mae jumps at the chance to head to Brooklyn and clear out Inez's apartment. There, she encounters Dev, the magnetic neighbor who knows more than he lets on and is all too eager to help Mae unravel the mystery surrounding Inez’s disappearance.
But as they sift through Inez's things, Mae stumbles upon something strange—a blank canvas of a painting, stark white except for a single curl of paint teasing at one corner, and an old notebook filled with cryptic details about the painting’s dark, unsettling history. Sensing a threat she can’t afford to lose, Mae convinces Dev to hit the road with her, diving headfirst into a journey that will draw them into a web of paranormal intrigue and danger that stretches back decades.
What starts as a search for her sister quickly spirals into a nightmarish conspiracy neither of them is prepared for. The deeper they go, the more they realize that some secrets are buried for a reason.
