Give Back to Your Community

Reading Program tutors can give back to their community by helping an adult improve their reading and writing skills to achieve their lifelong goals.

What are the requirements to volunteer?

• • Adults (age 18 and up)
  • Be patient, adaptable, and dedicated
  • Be able to read and write in English at a high school level
  • Have a permanent address in Santa Clara, or neighboring counties
  • Attend orientation and training
  • Clear online background check (fees covered by SCCLD)

• Dedicate at least 2 hours a week to your learner for at least 6 months (choose your own schedule)
• Prepare learner-centered lessons (tutoring materials and resources will be provided)

Orientation and Training

All interested volunteers for the Reading Program must attend tutor orientation before attending tutor training.
