The Distinguished Author Series Culminates with Dr. Daphne Miller

Medical Doctor and Author will Speak at De Anza College on Saturday, October 22
WHAT:

The Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) is proud to present the Distinguished Author Series, an annual speaker series that features acclaimed writers whose works spark thoughtful and meaningful conversations. These writers have come from different and diverse backgrounds with captivating and inspiring stories to tell. The final featured author is Dr. Daphne Miller.

Family physician, science writer, and clinical professor Dr. Daphne Miller studies the connections between health, food, and agriculture, with the goal of building a healthier and more resilient food system. Dr. Miller also helped to bridge aspects of the medical system into park systems, introducing “park prescriptions” in her Washington Post piece, “Take a Hike and Call Me in the Morning” (2009). She has written two books: The Jungle Effect: The Science of Wisdom and Traditional Diets (2008) and Farmacology: Total Health from the Soil Up (2013).

This discussion will be moderated by Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian, Chair of the Health and Hospital Committee and member of the Library JPA Governing Board. Simitian has served as Chair of the California State Senate Environmental Quality Committee and is a champion of initiatives that improve health outcomes for the entire community.
