Introducing the StoryWalk® Project That Encourages
Reading and Outdoor Exploration
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. – The Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) is pleased to announce the StoryWalk® Project is now at the Campbell Community Center, near the Campbell Express Library. A StoryWalk® includes pages taken directly from a children’s book, mounted and installed along an outdoor path. As you walk down the path, you are encouraged to read and follow the story along the way. StoryWalk® was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Vermont.
“StoryWalk® has been well-received all over the United States, and other countries like Canada, Germany, Malaysia and South Korea,” said County Librarian Jennifer Weeks. “Kids and families will enjoy following along with the stories that we have chosen. One starts at the main parking lot off of Campbell Avenue, the other at the athletic fields, and both lead to the Campbell Express Library.”
The selected books for the StoryWalk® at the Campbell Community Center are From Head to Toe by Eric Carle and I Spy Treasure Hunt by Walter Wick. From Head to Toe is a colorful children’s picture book that prompts young readers to clap their hands, stomp their feet or wiggle their toes along with the animals featured in the book. From Head to Toe is presented in both English and Spanish. I Spy Treasure Hunt has rhyming verses that asks readers to find hidden objects in photographs.
“We are so happy to partner with the Santa Clara County Library District on this project,” said Natasha Bissell, Recreation and Community Services Director for the City of Campbell. “We have so many families already visiting the Campbell Community Center for recreation classes, we hope this encourages even more people to come by and see this new addition to the area, and of course, visit the Campbell Express Library.”
Currently, the StoryWalk® Project at the Campbell Community Center is a pilot. It may be expanded to other areas within the Santa Clara County Library District.
