Let's spend October, National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month, openly talking about preventing bullying from happening. Addressing this ugly behavior is something we can all do, everyday. When does it cross the line from good friendly teasing to abuse? It's probably when only one person is laughing.
Parents are the primary role models for their children and when they model kindness, inclusiveness and respect, they instruct through their behavior. Even fairly young kids can learn to recognize hurt feelings. Everyone deserves a safe, supportive environment to thrive and grow.
