Earth Day at the Library

Nowadays it is more important than ever to care about and celebrate our Earth, as it is our only home. The theme of Silicon Valley Reads 2024, "A Greener Tomorrow Starts Today," leads well into Earth Day, which is celebrated on April 22.

The first Earth Day was founded by Gaylord Nelson, a U.S. senator, and took place on April 22, 1970. According to Britannica School Elementary, 10,000 people were present at the Washington Memorial on that day.

Now there is an International Earth Day celebration, and so many people are more aware of the damage people have inflicted on the environment. Earth Day is a great chance to think of ways we can make our communities and world better places--by picking up trash, planting trees, starting gardens (both vegetable and flower), and reducing, reusing, and recycling.

There are some great Earth Day books available at the library, some of which can be found below. The rest of the titles are on this list.
