Noor Khan has to start the last quarter of her senior year in a new school. Her father abruptly left the family and her mother moved Noor and her sister Amal from Chicago to a small town in Illinois.
Noor isn't interested in making friends in the new town. She just wants to keep her head down for the last couple of weeks of high school to make it to graduation and move back to Chicago.
This is easier said than done when one sticks out just by being Indian-American. And then there are the book bans. Noor discovers that hundreds of books are being challenged and removed from the school library.
Noor can't just watch this happen. This goes against everything her parents taught her, but activism is not so easy in a small town.
And will her budding romance with the son of the school board president make things easier or worse?
Every month the SCCLD Teen Librarians choose one book as a great read from the library's Teen collection. This is the list of the latest picks of the month.
