November 17, 1958 – Milpitas finally got its first county library. The first Milpitas Librarian was Mrs. Helen Mortensen. Until then Milpitas patrons could only access the collection through the Bookmobile. The library was established in one classroom of the historic grammar school at 160 N. Main Street and became known as the Community Center. Two additional branch locations were built. In 1963 the Calaveras Branch was established in the Fiesta Shopping Center, and in 1966 the Sunnyhills Branch opened on Dixon Landing Road.
