Community Cookbook

Submit Your Recipes to the Santa Clara County Community Cookbook!

Community members are invited to be a part of a new Santa Clara County Community Cookbook project. This project captures the family stories and recipes of our residents, culminating in the publication of a cookbook that reflects the richly diverse fabric of Santa Clara County's cultural landscape.

As part of the 2026 Silicon Valley Reads Bridges to Belonging program, we felt that sharing favorite and treasured recipes from our families, cultures, and personal histories, is a wonderful way to connect with each other and our communities!

How It Works

Each patron may submit up to three (3) recipes for consideration to be added to the Community Cookbook. Recipes with photographs attached will be highly considered, as will all recipes with clear and complete directions. We will accept recipes until Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

Submission guidelines

  • Participants must be current Santa Clara County resident.
  • Participants must be 10 and older.
  • Your recipe must be original/your own property, i.e. not directly taken from an existing published recipe.

Further Details

The cookbook will be published by the summer of 2026 and will include recipes accompanied by a brief personal narrative from each participant. Participants are highly encouraged to photograph their dishes, as the Santa Clara County Library District will be unable to do so.

The photographs, recipes, and stories will be included on our website, as well as printed into booklets distributed to each of our community libraries for the whole community to view and enjoy.

This project is supported by Silicon Valley Reads and the Santa Clara County Library District.

For any questions about this project, please contact librarian Hannah Clement at hannah.clement@lib.sccgov.org.

Selection process

Recipes will be reviewed by SCCLD librarians for completeness and for the unique family stories they represent. We are selecting will be based on recipe type (Main Dish, Side Dish, Baked Good, or Dessert), originality of the recipe, quality of accompanied photographs, and cultural heritage significance. We are seeking a diverse array of recipes from a variety of cultures and different diets (vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, etc. recipes are welcome!).

Thank you for submitting your recipe for inclusion in the Santa Clara County Community Cookbook!
