Libraries Closed May 26 in Honor of Memorial Day

SCCLD libraries will be closed on Monday, May 26 in recognition of Memorial Day. Our Online Library with eBooks, audiobooks, streaming movies and music, digital newspapers and magazines, and databases on hundreds of subjects, is always available, 24/7.

Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday of May to honor the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who gave their lives protecting our nation since its founding. This tradition dates back to the Civil War to honor those who fought on the side of the Union, later expanding to include all U.S. conflicts following World War I. Source: Britannica School.

Americans have been involved in military conflicts since the Revolutionary War, with more than a million Americans paying the ultimate price. Sources: Defense Casualty Analysis System and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

The library has many works about U.S. military campaigns and the service of Americans from all walks of life. Here are some examples.
