The Santa Clara County Library District is thrilled to welcome the renowned Celebrity Chef Martin Yan, a true icon of Chinese cuisine.
Born in Guangzhou, China, in 1948, Chef Martin Yan's passion for cooking was ignited early on, nurtured within his family's deep-rooted culinary heritage. His father was a restaurateur, and his mother a grocer, immersing him in the vibrant world of flavors and ingredients from a young age.
At the age of 13, Chef Yan embarked on a culinary apprenticeship in Hong Kong, honing his skills and developing a profound understanding of traditional Chinese cooking techniques. He later pursued higher education, earning a Master of Science degree in Food Science from the University of California, Davis.
Chef Yan's groundbreaking PBS television show, "Yan Can Cook," captivated audiences worldwide with his charismatic personality, accessible approach to Chinese cooking, and signature phrase, "If Yan Can Cook, so can you!" This revolutionary show broke down the barriers of intimidating Chinese cuisine, inspiring countless home cooks to embrace the joys of Asian flavors.
Join us as Chef Martin Yan demonstrates delectable dishes from his latest cookbooks, "The Best of Yan Can Cook" and "MY Asian Kitchen." Learn the secrets behind his signature dishes and discover the magic of his cooking firsthand.
Following the cooking demonstration, Chef Yan will be available for a book signing and a meet-and-greet with fans.
