It’s back to school season bringing with it all the studying, homework, clubs, and volunteering. Learning never stops at the library, so let the library support you this year.
The High School Student Portal (hsstudent.sccld.org/) is where you will find resources for High School students, teachers, and parents. You will need an eAccount to access this resource which you would receive through your participating school. You can learn more about accessing this resource here.
If you are looking for volunteer opportunities, give the library a try. You must be 14 years or older to volunteer with the library:
- Most of our libraries have teen volunteer hours! Check with your local library to see if they have open volunteer slots.
- Teen Advisory Boards are also an option for fulfilling volunteer hours. They serve longer terms and get to work with the Teen Librarian to guide teen services.
- Interested in being a Homework Help Tutor? Apply online to become a tutor for elementary kids at your library while fulfilling your volunteer hours!
Here are some eResources for homework, test prep, college prep, and more:
- Brainfuse HelpNow - Tutors, writing and language labs, FASFA help, virtual meeting rooms, and so much more are available online.
- Learning Express for High School - among other homework help and support you can find online tutors here!
- Learning Express for College Prep - you will find resources to prep for the ACT, SAT, and other tests. There are also tools here to help you find the right college, find scholarships, and write college essays.
Events for teens:
- Clothes mending, Claymation workshops, meditation sessions, open mic nights, DND clubs, safe space meetups, and more are happening all over the county. Check here for teen events at the library.
Taking a break is an important part of studying and school work too. Here are some resources to take the best breaks:
- Headspace App - this app provides guided meditations, sleep sounds, and mindful movement exercises.
- Freegal Music & Hoopla – Whether it’s for a study break or setting the study mood, you can listen to music using these apps!
- Take a longer break and do some recreational reading. Enjoy some dark academia books recommended by a teen librarian from this booklist.
