August is back to school month, and even if you are not a student you can always find something to learn at the library. Below you will find learning aides and school support for all ages, for those returning to school, supporting someone who is returning to school, or for those curious minds who want to learn something new.
For Children & Their Adults
The Student Portal (student.sccld.org/) is where you will find many resources for Elementary and Middle School students, teachers, and parents. You will need a Student eAccount to access this resource which you should have through your school. You can learn more about accessing this resource here.
Here are some resources you can access through your standard library card via this library website:
- Homework Help Tutors can be found in many of our libraries - check our event’s page for details on your libraries Homework Help tutors. You can also find tutors online through library eResources (see below)!
- Reading Buddies: Practice verbal reading skills by reading aloud to a furry friend at the Morgan Hill, Cupertino, or Milpitas libraries.
- Storytimes – all of our storytimes are intended to encourage and apply early literacy techniques and skills. You can find storytimes at any of our libraries. Many bilingual storytimes are also on offer in the system .

- Brainfuse HelpNow - Here you will find a lot of homework help tools from tutors, to writing labs, test prep to Chess Tutoring, there is lots to find in Brainfuse.
- Learning Express for grades 4-8 - Elementary and Middle School resources that help students prepare for tests and assignments and boost their skills in important subjects.
- ABC Mouse - (ages 2-8) A classic Pre-k resource that you may already know about! Did you know it’s free through the Library? Just check it out!
For Adults (Career Support, Getting Your GED, Learning Just for the Fun of It)
- There are events going on all over the county where you can learn new skills or retread old ones. Here are adult programs going on in the libraries in August.
- English as a Second Language (ESL) Conversation Clubs are provided at many locations throughout the system and online. These are a good way to connect with other community members while building your English skills.
- If you are an adult who is looking to improve your English reading, writing, listening and speaking skills by working 1:1 with a tutor, the Reading Program may be for you.

- GED, HiSET, and TASC test prep, practice, and tutorials. High School Equivalency Center by LearningExpress
- The Great Courses and Creativebug - are curiosity and creativity hubs. These are resources for learning new craft skills (Creativebug) or learning more about a large variety of subjects (The Great Courses).
- Rosetta Stone: this language learning resource can help expand and maintain languages you are rusty with.
