What Is The Reading Program?
The Reading Program from the Santa Clara County Library District offers FREE 1-on-1 tutoring for adults who want to improve reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Individual pairs of volunteer tutors and learners meet online or in person at a SCCLD community library. Tutors support learners working toward a wide range of goals, including getting a job, helping their child(ren) with homework, communicating more effectively with teachers and doctors, writing emails and filling out forms, getting a high school diploma or certificate, obtaining citizenship, and feeling more confident in everyday life.
History
The Reading Program started in 1985 as an early member of the State Library's California Literacy Campaign. Services are targeted to adults residing in the Santa Clara County Library District service area. Not sure if we serve your area? Go to the California Library Literacy Services website or call 1-888-767-7323, and they can connect you to the program nearest you.
