Fully Renovated Campbell Library to Reopen This Spring

Grand Opening Ceremony Scheduled for May 9

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. – The Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) has exciting news to share regarding the highly anticipated, fully remodeled Campbell Library. Construction of the building and landscape is complete. The interior finishing work is wrapping up, and library staff are starting the final stage of preparations—moving in brand new furniture, thousands of books, and a whole lot of equipment. Furnishing a two-story library doesn’t happen overnight but mark your calendar! The Grand Opening celebration is set for Saturday, May 9. This is one Campbell event that has been a long time in the making and well worth the wait.

The City of Campbell and SCCLD have worked in partnership around this project starting with Measure O, a $50 million bond measure passed by Campbell voters in 2018 to renovate the library facility located at 77 Harrison Avenue and build a new police operations building with a 911 dispatch center and Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

The project was realized thanks to $20.5 million of the original Measure O funds allocated to the library project, with an additional $500,000 electrification demonstration grant from Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) to build a fully electric facility and a $4.7 million infrastructure California State Library grant. The Library District contributed approximately $510,000 toward interior amenities and programming, and the Friends of the Campbell Library raised another $250,000.

“The new Campbell Library reflects many years of working together with our community and the Santa Clara County Library District,” expressed Campbell City Manager Brian

Loventhal. “Thanks to the support of the Campbell voters through Measure O along with additional grant funding allowed this project to be completed. We are proud to deliver a modern, all-electric facility that will serve our community for generations and be a place where people and innovation thrive.”

What do patrons have to look forward to?

Let’s start with the floor to ceiling windows that span two floors with a flood of light. Whether visiting the Children’s Room, Teen section, or area for adults, there's plenty of seating and natural light to make it an enjoyable visit.

On the upper floor, a flexible community gathering space called The Overlook is a welcoming sight upon entering the library. The Overlook is flanked on one side by the Community Room and the Children’s Room on the opposite side.

There are also meeting rooms available on this floor, complete with a wall monitor to plug in a personal device for the public to reserve for study groups, collaboration meetings, and more. Travel to the back of The Overlook and find a picturesque, unobstructed view of Orchard Green.

The downstairs area is an oasis for teens and adults to browse, read, study, work, and relax. With laptops to borrow, free WiFi, booths, and plenty of seating, the fully renovated 24,000 square foot Campbell Library will be a destination for all residents.

“Many of the brand-new features in the Campbell Library have been carefully thought out and designed to provide a beautiful, welcoming community place that blends the best of modern convenience, flexible spaces, and excellent library services,” said County Librarian Jennifer Weeks. “We can’t wait to celebrate this new chapter in the city’s history with the grand opening of the Campbell Library!”
