Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) Pride Month is celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. What started as a PRIDE "day" in June of 1970, soon grew to include months-long series of celebrations and events in communities all over the world. Today, celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia and concerts. The purpose of celebrating PRIDE month is to recognize and honor the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on our society.
