November 2025 Teen Book of the Month – The Unfinished

The Unfinished

The Unfinished by Cheryl Isaacs

318 p. (Gr. 9+)

"You only find it if it wants you."

Avery, a small-town athlete, runs right into danger on her daily jog. After stumbling on a dark pond she has never seen before– and which can’t be found on any map– she finds she is drawn in like moth to a flame only to see the dark waters staring back at her. Now she is being haunted and people, even friends, begin to go missing. To find out what this threat is and hopefully how to stop it she must trust a side of herself she has always struggled to connect with. Avery is half Kanien’kéha:ka (Mohawk) and half white. To save a dear friend Avery must reach out to her elders, listen to their stories, and learn to connect with her whole self.

This horror novel is chilling and suspenseful, at times making you wonder how much of this is happening in Avery’s head and how much is real. The water grows more and more omnipresent and threatening and the unfinished things sent after her are classic uncanny valley horror creatures.

Even better, the second book in this series is already out! The Others
