Celebrating California Authors

Join us for an In-Person Conversation with Diverse California Voices

WHAT:

California is a state rich in diversity and talent. The Santa Clara County Library District is showcasing that talent in a special in-person author panel, Celebrating California Authors. Join us as we hear from three California-based authors about their groundbreaking yet refreshing works.

Bestselling author Steven Rowley writes LGBTQ+ fiction that explores modern relationships and life, weaving together emotional depth that is poignant but at times humorous. His most recent book is The Dogs of Venice.

Poet and performer Devorah Major explores themes of being, family, community and the Black Experience. A former San Francisco Poet Laureate, Major shares her knowledge and teaches poetry craft, short story writing and composition. Major’s latest work is word time.

Tech executive, attorney and activist Bärí A. Williams has worked on initiatives geared towards diversity in the workplace. Her recent book Seen Yet Unseen: A Black Woman Crashes the Tech Fraternity is her story about a Black woman from Oakland working in Silicon Valley for companies like Facebook.

Celebrating California Authors is free and open to the public. Please register in advance to attend this event and learn more at sccld.org/CAauthors. The first 50 people in line will receive a book bag with the authors’ books. There will be other books available for purchase through Leigh’s Favorite Bookstore.

The talk will be followed by Q&A and a book signing.
