Santa Clara County Library District to Offer Two Different Workshops on Medicare Enrollment and Diabetes Prevention/Management

Experts will lead sessions, offered at multiple libraries

WHO: The Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) and community partners.

MEDICARE: Medicare course will be presented by local Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program (HICAP) administrator Sourcewise.  

DIABETES PREVENTION:Diabetes workshop will be run by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist or nutrition educator (for Gilroy Library classes).

WHAT: Informational sessions to assist County residents.

MEDICARE:Those who are nearing retirement age and thinking about enrolling in Medicare or changing their Medicare coverage

DIABETES PREVENTION:Those who are seeking to avoid and/or manage Prediabetes and Type 2 Diabetes

WHY: To improve the health and quality of life for residents of Santa Clara County.

MEDICARE: Nearly 8 million Californians are over age 60, with estimates showing a 40% increase in this population by 2030. Americans become eligible to enroll in Medicare around age 65, or younger if disabled.  

DIABETES PREVENTION:50% of adults in Santa Clara County are estimated to have prediabetes, most not aware of their risk. The good news is that there are steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of developing diabetes.

About the Santa Clara County Library District
