Santa Clara County Library Bookmobile Hits the Road

After three years of planning and design the new Santa Clara County Library Bookmobile is on the road to you. Strengthening our commitment to bring Library services to every community, the Santa Clara County Library introduces a new colorful, state-of-the-art bookmobile. The new vehicle is more spacious than the l995 model with an entrance ramp and a wide center aisle for wheelchair access. A new awning off the side of the Bookmobile offers shade for young children and their parents attending storytime programs. In addition, a satellite hookup allows for real-time computer access to patron accounts and the Library catalog.

Currently the Bookmobile visits 45 stops every two-weeks, lending more than 100,000 items each year. Bookmobile services extend from South of Gilroy to the Santa Cruz Mountains to the top of Mount Hamilton and serve a cross-section of the county’s population from preschoolers to seniors.

In 2003, the Bookmobile was awarded the Santa Clara County Executive Unity in Diversity Achievement Award for service to the Ochoa migrant camp in Gilroy.
