SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. –February 2, 2016, Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) will host two free TEDx events at the Gilroy Library at 350 W 6th St., Gilroy, on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. A popular way to bring communities together, TEDx events invites local residents to gather in a communal atmosphere to watch and discuss ideas and topics. Gilroy’s TEDx event presents a live-stream video of the 2016 TED Talk conference: TED2016: Dream. The sessions presented will be aired live as they are broadcast from Vancouver, Canada. Focusing on the greatest dreams one is capable of dreaming, TED2016: Dream takes a close look at some of humanity’s toughest challenges.
Local residents may attend one or both of the free events. Shows to be broadcast are TED University, during which sixteen different TED attendees will present their own TED-style talks, and Nightmare, a panel discussion by five distinguished speakers on a variety of timely topics including gun control, climate change and world hunger.

“The library is an outstanding forum for sharing thoughts and fostering inspiration,” commented Nancy Howe, County Librarian for the Santa Clara County Library District. “We’re very pleased that we are able to bring these timely topics to local residents and look forward to not only sharing these talks with the community but providing an opportunity for further discussion,” continued Howe.
Videos that present a great idea in 18 minutes or less, TED Talks have grown in popularity since its first online broadcast in 2006. With the goal to share ideas worth spreading, the talks center on a variety of fields including science, technology, business and culture around the world. TED Talks are available online for free and have garnered over one billion collective views. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
