Residents urged to try new technology: thousands of free eResources available at the Library

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. –February 3, 2015 – Santa Clara County Library District’s (SCCLD) Campbell Library recently unveiled its new Tech Toolbar, a new service area dedicated to providing hands on tutorials for operating various electronic devices.    Located on the lower level next to the Information Desk, individuals are encouraged to explore, play and sample various devices and learn how to easily download a myriad of eResources.  Four devices are currently included in the Tech Toolbar: an iPad mini, Samsung Galaxy tablet, Kindle Fire and Kindle Paperwhite.  “Providing a place where individuals can try different devices and have instructors available to answer questions opens an enormous eResource world filled with an almost unlimited amount of downloadable materials” stated Jason Baker, SCCLD Joint Powers Authority Board Member and City of Campbell’s Vice Mayor.

What began as a pilot program at the Cupertino Library has expanded to the Campbell Library and later this year to the Los Altos Library.  “Libraries aren’t just about books anymore.  Individuals are always surprised at how much there is to discover at the library.  With tens of thousands of eResources currently available (including 46,000 eBooks), cardholders can borrow and read just about anything.  EBooks, eMusic, eMagazines, eAudiobooks are all available for free.  We encourage anyone with a new tablet or eReader to bring it into the library and discover the potential of their new device. With all of these available eResources, cardholders can now bring the library with them wherever they go” stated Marlene Iwamoto, Supervising Librarian at SCCLD’s Campbell Library.

Trained Tech Toolbar coaches are available to help people with their electronic devices and provide tips on how to download available materials.
