Emily Lo New JPA Chair

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. – Emily Lo, Mayor of Saratoga, has been elected Chair of the Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) Joint Powers Authority (JPA) Governing Board.  Ms. Lo succeeds Jason Baker, 2014 JPA Chair and current Council Member for the City of Campbell.   Burton Craig, Mayor of Monte Sereno, has been elected as JPA Vice-Chair.
The SCCLD Joint Powers Authority Board provides policy direction and governance, as well as oversees the budget for the Library District.  As the incoming SCCLD Joint Powers Authority Chair, Lo will preside at all JPA meetings with Burton Craig, Vice Chair, presiding in her absence.

"The libraries in the Santa Clara County Library District are tremendous assets. Not only do they host a remarkable array of books and materials, including online collections, they serve as a place where people can gather, share resources, collaborate, and strengthen the bonds that form our community. It is an honor to have been selected as Chair of the District’s Governing Board and to represent an organization that does so much to serve our residents,” stated newly elected JPA Chair Emily Lo.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Lo moved to the Bay Area with her family in 1989 for a short term. After three and half years in Japan, the family returned to California again in 1995 when they settled in Saratoga, California.   A resident of Saratoga for more than 19 years, Mayor Lo has been actively involved with local schools and served as the president of the Saratoga High School PSTA.  Ms. Lo is also the past president of the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce and has served on the Saratoga City Council since 2010.

The SCCLD Joint Powers Authority Board is composed of eleven members, with one member from each of the nine member city councils (Campbell, Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Milpitas, Monte Sereno, Morgan Hill, Saratoga and the County of Santa Clara) and two members from the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.

Held annually, JPA elections take place on the last meeting of the calendar year with new officers beginning their one year term in January of the following year.  Lo will lead the first JPA meeting of 2015, scheduled for January 29, 2015, 1:30 p.m. at the Library District’s Services and Support Center, located at 1370 Dell Avenue in Campbell, CA.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting.
