Access over 190,000 Video Tutorials/5,000 Lynda.com Courses with Library Card
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. – Lynda.com, the popular learning site accessed by millions each year, is now available for free to all Santa Clara County residents with a Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) library card. Offering over 5,000 courses with more than 190,000 video tutorials, Lynda.com provides participants a chance to learn new skills through its growing library of video courses taught by industry experts. Course categories include business, software, technology and creative skills topics.
“We are excited to add Lynda.com to our expanding list of free online learning programs. While many residents know about the vast amount of offerings available online for school age children, most don’t realize the superb learning resources available for free for young adults, stay at home parents, retirees and working professionals who want to learn new skills or brush up on previously learned subjects,” stated SCCLD County Librarian, Nancy Howe.
Topics featured in Lynda.com include a wide variety of courses such as Filmmaking, Software Development, Programming, Business Development, Music Production, Graphic Design, 3D Animation, Photography, IOS App Development, as well as 22 different musical instrument lessons. Course content contains instructional playlists, bite-size tutorials, keyword-searchable course transcripts, articles, and practice files for the online learner. New courses are added each week.
Self-directed and self-paced, lessons include course videos divided into easily managed blocks of time for stress-free viewing. Once a course has been completed, participants receive a Certificate of Completion which may then be added to social media such as a LinkedIn profile. Basic individual membership to Lynda.com cost an estimated $25 each month/$300 year. However, the service is free when one logs in with a SCCLD library card, allowing unlimited access from any SCCLD library computer as well as any computer, tablet or mobile device with internet access.
In addition to Lynda.com, SCCLD’s Virtual Library added several other popular online resources during 2016: Rosetta Stone, medici.tv, Ready Rosie and daily access to The New York Times for all SCCLD card holders.
