In order to accommodate the additional day of service, Gilroy Library has restructured its weekly hours to better reflect community needs.   Starting January 5, 2015, Gilroy Library’s new open hours will be:

Monday:              1:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Tuesday:             1:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Saturday:             10:00 am – 6:00 pm
Sunday:                Closed

“We are very pleased to be able to expand library hours and open an additional day.  While these extra hours will benefit all South County residents, it will especially help those students who need access to education and information resources they might not have at home,” stated Lani Yoshimura, Community Librarian for the Gilroy Library.

Built in 2012, the new Gilroy Library replaced an earlier building constructed in 1975.  SCCLD has worked for the past two years to find the most efficient combination of resources and staffing to keep operational costs down while continuing to offer exceptional service to the community.  In addition to working efficiently, the new Library is a green Leadership in Energy and Environmental Designed (LEED) Certified building equipped with the newest in technological advances and energy-saving systems resulting in reduced operation costs.

Gilroy Library houses nearly 190,000 volumes including over 400 periodicals and the largest Spanish language collection in the Santa Clara County Library District. The library is also home to a unique 200 phonograph record collection from the KFAT radio station.

“We want our libraries to be open as much as possible. The combination of having a fully functioning, inviting, new library building, finding work efficiencies, and the addition of a security guard, have enabled us to expand service hours,”  noted County Librarian, Nancy Howe.   For additional information about the Gilroy Library, please visit www.sccl.org.
