Educational Entertainment will Hit a High Note with the Kids!
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. – The Santa Clara County Library District (SCCLD) is proud to announce the fall Family Literacy Concert Series in the month of October. Award winning children’s singer-songwriter MaryLee Sunseri will lead music concerts for babies, toddlers and their grownups at all SCCLD libraries during the month of October.
The first five years of a child’s life are pivotal when it comes to learning. That is why many organizations, including SCCLD, encourage parents to talk, read, sing, write and play with their children.
“Music and dance go hand in hand with early literacy,” said County Librarian Nancy Howe. “As there is rhythm in music, there is rhythm in words and sentences. These concerts are both educational and entertaining. We know our littlest learners and their families will have an enjoyable time.”

“Bringing programs like this to our communities shows that SCCLD is committed to helping our youth become successful in learning to read,” said County Supervisor and Library Joint Powers Authority Board Chairman Mike Wasserman. “It’s also a wonderful way for families to bond over music and dancing.”
SCCLD has additional early literacy resources, such as Read with Me Kits to help share the joy of reading using tools like puppets and toys, Born to Read, which offers tips to new parents on how to instill a love of reading in their child, and 1,000 Books Before 6, which challenges young readers and their parents to reach this milestone by their sixth birthday.
