Cupertino Library to host OverDrive Digital Bookmobile National Tour Event

Interactive experience to explore Library’s eBooks and Audiobooks

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. – February 6, 2018 – Digital reading platform OverDrive’s flagship educational vehicle will make a stop at the parking lot of Santa Clara County Library District’s (SCCLD) Cupertino Library as part of a national promotional tour. The event, which will take place from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, February 17, will offer a chance for people of all ages to learn how to download library eBooks and Audiobooks onto their own personal devices using OverDrive.

“Our library district is in the heart of Silicon Valley,” stated Nancy Howe, County Librarian. “As such, we want to provide the opportunity for everyone in our community to take part in this excellent educational campaign focused on downloading eBooks and Audiobooks.” SCCLD is making online services a priority for 2018, with a website revamp scheduled and the recent redesign of its online resource section. The new 24/7 Online Library contains 147 offerings of digital tools and resources, including Overdrive and their new “Libby” eBook and Audiobook browsing and downloading app.

The 42-foot long Digital Bookmobile is equipped with broadband Internet-connected PCs, free Wi-Fi, touchscreen monitors, premium sound systems, and a variety of portable media players, all of which will help visitors explore SCCLD’s online services. In the Gadget Gallery, patrons can explore several major handheld devices, including iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, Chromebook and Kindle.

Interactive learning stations will encourage visitors to search the library’s digital media collection and go through the borrowing process. Beginners can get a one-on-one tutorial from technical experts from both Overdrive and SCCLD. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own hand held devices for a more immersive online experience. SCCLD staff will be present to sign up attendees for a library account, providing them with full access to our online library and the over 2 million items in our total collection.
