Classical Music Concerts, Operas, and Ballets now available for viewing

with SCCLD’s New Online Access to medici.tv

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. – June 30, 2016, Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre, New York’s Carnegie Hall and the Opera national de Paris are just a few of the internationally renowned concert halls now available to visit online through Santa Clara County Library District’s (SCCLD) newest addition of medici.tv to its Virtual Library. 

“Anyone who has ever dreamt of going to a concert at the Philharmonie in Berlin, or of watching a breathtaking ballet performed at the Bolshoi Theatre can now do so from the comfort of home or while visiting a local SCCLD library.  We are pleased to offer free access to thousands of some of the best classical music concerts, ballets, operas and more right here at the library through medici.tv.  Not only is it free, you get the best seat in the house!” stated Nancy Howe, SCCLD County Librarian. 

Created in 2008, medici.tv is an online platform for streaming classical music videos, offering over a hundred live broadcasts each year including international concerts, operas and ballets.  With the addition of medici.tv to SCCLD’s Virtual Library collection, SCCLD members now have free admission to thousands of broadcasts normally available only through subscription.  All that is needed is a library card and access to the internet. 

Attending internationally recognized concerts and listening to some of the greatest artists in the world used to be out of reach to the mass majority.   Free access to SCCLD’s medici.tv opens enormous possibilities to music lovers everywhere.  Available through SCCLD’s main website: www.sccl.org, virtual concert goers can gain access to both international and national events by visiting:  www.sccl.org/browse/music to link directly into medici.tv.  Logging into medici.tv can be done at the library or at home with a library card.

Featured performances include both pre-recorded videos and live broadcasts.  With a single mouse click, SCCLD members can enjoy incredible orchestras, concert halls, festivals, and international music competitions.  Events held at Carnegie Hall and Beijing’s NCPA, performances by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Berliner Philharmoniker, Lucerne Festival Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, as well as artists performing at the Aspen Music Festival, Moscow Easter Festival, Salzburg Festival, Festival de Saint-Denis and Poland’s International Chopin Piano Competition are all available. 

Viewers can choose from over 100 live broadcasts and 1,700 videos of high quality pre-recorded programs.  Featured works include concerts, operas, ballets, documentaries, master classes, educational films, and artist profiles.  In addition, over 3,000 musical performances, from baroque to contemporary music, are offered. More than 3,500 webpages of research data, including performance synopses, cast information, performer biographies, video links and more are also available.  The website is continuously updated with new information and videos.

SCCLD’s Virtual Library is easily accessed through the library’s main website: www.sccl.org.  Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the site offers SCCLD’s customers with a variety of services and content.  In addition to medici.tv, library cardholders can download materials for eReaders, tablets, and other devices, with online resources, music, audiobooks and more than 46,000 eBooks available for free.
