May 20 marks the anniversary of the publication of the first modern atlas. An atlas is a book of maps or charts, and this atlas was created by Belgian cartographer (or mapmaker) Abraham Ortelius. He named his atlas "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum," which means Theatre of the World.
