Use PressReader to Access Newspapers Online for Free!

When hot topics are in the news such as impeachment and political campaigns, do you even wish you could read a newspaper from other part of the country to get another perspective?  Or, would you like to read what is going on in your hometown?  By using PressReader available on the SCCLD website, you may be able to do this for free!  PressReader provides the current newspapers and magazines as well as older editions for up to three months.

Try It Now!

Click on this link https://www.pressreader.com/catalog.  Or, from www.sccl.org, go to Online Library 24/7, eMagazines & News, and PressReader. Click or tap the title that interests you!

If you are accessing PressReader from outside the library, use the "Sign In button" in the top, right corner. Select "Library and Group" and "Santa Clara County Library District", then enter your Library Card Number and PIN for full access to PressReader.

To narrow the selection of titles, indicate the Country, language, and categories (such as News).  To see if your hometown newspaper is available, highlight the Region and state.  The Los Angeles Times, Mercury News, Santa Cruz Sentinel and Bakersfield Californian are some of the papers listed for California.

Other Enhancements

To make the font larger or to scroll to another page, swipe the screen or use your mouse.  Move to different section of the paper by clicking a tab at the bottom.  Look at a prior day's paper by selecting on a date in the calendar.  You may print an article or page with the Print key.  If you want to take a break from reading, click the Listen key!  Use Text View if you prefer a text format rather than the columns.

You may download an app if you wish and create an account.  This is not necessary to start reading a newspaper.

Explore Magazines Too!

PressReader also includes magazines.  Don't forget to explore our other magazine databases, RBdigital Magazines, Flipster, Special Collections, and two Chinese magazines-HyRead and Qikan Dragon Source.
