The City We Became – N.K. Jemisin

The City We Became

Urban fantasy is my jam, and N.K. Jemisin's latest did not disappoint.  If you've ever been to New York, Chicago or Berlin, you know that different cities have different vibes.  Jemisin takes this idea to its logical conclusion in a world where major cities are represented by human avatars.  New York's soul becomes personified in the body of a teenage street kid.  He, along with the representatives of the five boroughs, must fight an all-encompassing evil that seeks to snuff out the soul of the city before it fully awakens.  A Lovecraftian love letter to New York.
