DIY Spa Products

Would you like to learn how to create some of your own spa-like products to use at home?  We have several resources for you to make your own spa products:

  • Adults and teens are welcome to join us in the Courtyard of the Gilroy library on Saturday, February 5 from 2-3 pm to make bath bombs, a body scrub and a foot soak!  Please register at DIY Spa Products. Update: This program has ended.
  • Explore our Creativebug database with various arts and crafts videos including "Soaks, Salts, and Scrubs", "Make Hand and Body Salve", "Bath Bombs", and "Homemade Apothecary".
  • To make a basic salt body scrub, use 1/4 cup of oil to 1 cup of salt.  Use a salt such as Epson salt, sea salt, or pink Himalayan salt.  Use an oil such as olive oil, coconut oil (melt oil by putting the bottle in hot water for 5 minutes), almond oil, or nut oil.  Add 10-20 drops of essential oils and dried flower petals or herbs if you desire.  Or, make a special coffee scrub with 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds (brewed or fresh grounds), 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of safflower oil, and 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional).  Scrubs are best used immediately, but you can store the scrub in a clear jar.
  • Check out some DIY spa products books.  Here is a handy booklist for you!
