Coming Soon: OverDrive Online Materials Change in Check Out Process

Starting on March 1st, 2022, OverDrive, one of the eBooks, Audiobooks and eMaterials providers used by Santa Clara County Library will be  making changes to how users will checkout online material from the catalog.

Due to the removal of the OverDrive app in 2022, users will now be directed to use the Libby App. This means that our catalog will now direct you to Libby which will allow for you to download, read or listen to your favorite online materials! These changes will direct users towards Libby and will not affect how users place holds or check items out in OverDrive.

Starting on March 1st, 2022, users will see an “Access This Item” button or a dropdown option which will allow users to select their preferred way to access eMaterials.

Here are some examples of what this change will look like. Let’s say you have Ready Player One by Ernest Cline checked out and you wanted to read it. You would see the access button like this:

Once you click the Access this Item, you will be directed to an overlay that will give you options based on how users can access these items:

Additionally, in the app, you will see these access options as well:

This “Access This Item” will appear on searches, Checked Out pages, Lists and within our SCCLD Mobile App. Finally, this change will not affect our other online materials services like cloudLibrary.

The Santa Clara County Library District is here to help during these eMaterials changes. If you have any questions or need assistance, you can always Ask a Librarian or visit our Online Library 24/7 Help section!
